Hello! A friend dropped a young chicken off ~ 3-4 months old off last night due to inability to walk and complete disuse of right leg. The chicken seems to be in good spirits and not in obvious pain. She will eat and drink like normal and interacts well I enter the room she’s being isolated in. The right leg has the toes curled under and she seems to have no feeling, it basically lies forward all the time and hinders her from standing. The left front seems to be weak as well but not nearly as bad as the right. I am wondering if anyone has experienced this? If so, what did you do? I have read about slings and also possible vitamin deficiency, so I purchased a daily supplement which of course she doesn’t love! Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like hatch issues that weren't corrected soon enough. Pictures/video would help. Did your friend say if the bird had ever used it's leg?

I am unable to attach the video of her trying to walk but you can see the obvious issues with the legs. When she does try to walk she pretty much just flops her wings around and may be able to scoot forward ever so slightly using the left leg. She’s rather dirty as well as in she may have had diarrhea at some point but since getting here last night she’s had normal colored stools, etc.
The friend got her from someone else who was going to cull her. They had no history, were unsure when this started or of an injury, etc. I’m sorry, I don’t have very much info.

Here’s a short clip. Great direction, thank you.

How long has this chick had this issue? To me it's CTP (Curly Toe Paralysis) which is due to a vitamin deficiency (Riboflavin). The sooner treatments starts the faster/better for recovery. I had a chick deveope it at 3wks, started treatment & in 2wks it was walking.

I also taped it's toes straight using the adhesive part of a band aid, you could also try Vet Wrap. There's also a sling that can be made to keep it up right.

Curly Toe Paralysis - Riboflavin deficiency; PolyVisol without iron 1 drop 3x day, Vitamin B Complex, eggs, salmon, liver, beef, pork, spinach, nuts, sesame seeds, nutritional yeast, tuna, mushrooms, fortified cereals

There's a website ... Poultry Pedia .... I have yet to learn how to link it, sorry.

Perfect, I got a supplement which I have started earlier this afternoon in the water. Thank you very much for your input. I feel a little more hopeful moving forward this little lady.
