young chickens laying on their side together?

hello! i have two chickens one is a pullet and one we’re almost sure is a cockerel. they’re about 11 weeks old. since they’ve been in the coop i’ve seen them occasionally lay on their sides and i think it’s usually in the sun right next to each other.

i took this picture yesterday, and it was pretty warm maybe 55-65 in the coop so i’m not sure if they were cold or hot maybe.
also george usually puffs up his feathers around his neck when they lay together like this, if someone had an explanation i would really appreciate it!

Mine fluff their feathers when sunbathing, too. I think it lets some sun hit their skin instead of just being completely blocked by the feathers.

This is one of the cutest things chickens do, imo. They're relaxed and happy. It's a GOOD sign!
