Hi guys,
im hoping someone may be able to help or advise on this lump.
One of my young chooks, about 3 months old, has had a steadily growing lump on the side of her face. The lump in question is right on her ear and it feels quite firm in places. The problem seems to be that there is no ear opening at all. The other ear is fine. On the out side of the lump there is ear hair (as with the other ear) but the skin under this hair has no opening at all and i cant even find any signs that there was ever one there.
Could this be caused by a birth defect, therefore the ear is swelling and infected as there is no where for the gunk to come out. Or could it be that an infection has caused the ear to swell and close over? Has anyone had this happen before?
I was hoping to be able to sort it out myself as i find that traveling to our local over priced vet can be quite distressing for chickens. At the moment she eating and drinking well and free ranging round he garden as usual and it does not seem to be bothering her too much. Im sure if it keeps growing it will distort her face and get painful. Obviously if there is nothing i can do myself she will have to go to the vets.
Any advice would be really helpful...thankyou!
