I have 12 ducks, 6 Ancona, 6 Saxony. They are almost 8 weeks old. Last night I noticed my only male Saxony is acting strange. He isn't staying with the flock, doesn't seem to be foraging, or drinking as much, and goes off by himself to sleep in the shade. These are the first ducks I've ever had, so I don't know what I should do for him. Could he be sick, or is this a male thing that comes with maturity? He also isn't running away when someone approaches, even children, and will just sit there and let them pet him, touch his feet, etc., all without moving.

I really wanted to keep the male for breeding since he is the only male of that type.

Should I isolate him? What do I watch for? Medicine?

Thanks for any help.

Sarah

Isolate him for awhile where you can observe him. If his condition worsens, post again so we can help you out. If he seems to get better, than put him back with the others.

Good luck!

Every time I've had a duck do this, they were sick. Sometimes they recover, sometimes not. I would agree to Isolate him until he gets better so that the rest are protected.
