Young duck laying shell-less eggs

That's what I hope. This is only my second round of ducks. My first round of ducks laid perfect eggs. They gobbled down oyster shell like a teenager scarfs fast food. I'm a bit flummoxed by this year's egg laying issues.
These sorts of laying problems are not the norm and if not addressed can lead to serious problems. Did you finally find a vet you trust? If so, call them and ask for their opinion.

Unfortunately, I have not found a vet I can trust around here. The last vet I took one of my ducks to was an Avian Vet and even after spending a lot of money on tests, I still left without a diagnosis and a bottle of NSAIDS. Then I came on BYC and got advice which remedied the issue I was concerned about, so I am a bit vet-shy. (I wish BYC had a vet recommendation page.) I end up spending a lot of money and then the duck either dies or I find more useful information from actual duck owners.

I'll be keeping a close eye on Sage. I do agree that soft shelled/no shelled eggs are something to be concerned about, which is why I am really concerned. :(

I hear ya, and I know I have recommended that place in Oakley that you had a bad experience at. :hugs I too have had a couple of bad experiences at a place in Cupertino, so I know how you feel. The one place I have never had a bad experience at is in Monterey, but that is a very long drive for you.

Thanks! I'll keep the place in Monterey in mind. If I'm in a pinch and have exhausted all options, it's better to have one place that's a drive, than 20 not very helpful places that are close by.

It's so sunny here today and I actually can wear a T-shirt out. The ducks, including Sage, are all so happy. It's really nice to not have to deal with weather issues as well as duck egg issues and mean drake issues! (Especially after yesterday's freak hail storm.)

They've always done right by me, though not all outcomes were good. They are very good at squeezing people in and their fees are better than many other vets. Last time I went an office visit for 1-2 birds was just $45.

Wow! It's double that here in Oakland! At Oakley I think it was even more.
