Young duck laying shell-less eggs

Wow! It's double that here in Oakland! At Oakley I think it was even more.

They are very reasonable. 3-4 birds was $68.

Found another shelled egg while I was cleaning things up in the garden. This one had little bits of calcium deposits, making it a bit rough. It was also a little longer and more oval than the other eggs I've gotten. Maybe the shell-less eggs are stress related? Everyone is super happy. I re-homed my drake and Fiori, who was molting and being harassed, is as happy as could be. Sage, my new layer, is all over the map with her eggs. After her shell-less egg laying, she was laying a nice, very hard shelled egg in the duck house every morning, before we let everyone out, and then she decided to go on strike and not lay anything and now she's back to laying again. She's doing this strange thing where she wants to go off on her own and look for sheltered places, where she just sits for an hour or 2. She was desperate to sneak off to my neighbor's juniper hedge, until we blocked the fence openings with that temporary plastic fencing. I see that she's eating oyster shell too. Yippee! She's healthy and I read that's normal behavior for a new laying duck.

So, with all the drake drama behind us, everyone is just so much happier, myself included.

I do have one wild card. One of my ducks (I have 3) is not laying. I'm suspecting it's the one who was molting (but who seems to have grown her feathers back), but I'm not sure, as I saw her shoveling in the oyster shell too. I'm not too worried about it, since everyone is happy and healthy.

Is your place a little less muddy now that the rain has eased up? We were getting pretty bad here.

Everything in my yard is planted with something or mulched, so thankfully I don't have to deal with mud. If I see it, I cover it up with mulch. I can tell, however, that the soil below that mulch is really saturated and that if I weren't covered, I'd have one giant, mud pit.

We are STILL getting rain. Luckily it's not torrential. I do wish that mother nature would turn that spigot off. I'm trying to start my summer garden and with all this rain, and no sun, my seedlings are going nowhere fast.

I figured they weren't the cause, but I don't think they were helping either.
