My almost 5 month old Welsh Harlequin duck is acting unwell today. Whenever I go down to check on her she's either standing with her eyes closed or lying down with her eyes closed and head tucked. I thought because of her age and small size it could be a bound egg. Her abdomen didn't feel hard to me though, and I didn't see an egg at her vent. She isn't pumping her tail but looked like she could be taking shorter steps than usual. She also had a small amount of clear fluid coming from a nostril, I don't know if that is related or can be normal. Any ideas on what could be wrong with her? I put some Nutri-drench in their water but I'm not sure what else I should do.

What are you feeding her ? Could she have got into something toxic ? Mouldy feed ? Have you been giving nutrition yeast when younger to help with niacin ? What’s the heat like there ?
Has she been laying eggs yet ? Of do how often
Do you have drakes ? If so so they mate her ?
Hopefully it’s something simple but all we can do is ask tons of questions to help rule things out

How hot is it there? When it gets 95+ here my ducks often will stand or lay down with their eyes closed in the shade. They also do not eat as much because the body slows down the digestion process to prevent adding further internal heat.
Thank you. She's been eating chick starter. It doesn't look mouldy and it is stored inside out of the wet. She has a wooded yard to run in so eating something toxic is a possibility. I gave her supplemental powdered niacin in water when she was younger.

It's been anywhere from 90-100 degrees here, but today was on the cooler side and she's definitely acting different from the other ducks.

I'm not sure if she's laying yet because she moved in with the other ducks at 4 months old so I don't know whose eggs are whose. I did get a couple of tiny eggs recently so they could have been from her or my other young duck.

I have 2 drakes, one is a year old and pretty much leaves her alone but still has access to her, and the other is her own age and has mated her.

One thing I will rec is to have an antibiotic on hand. I am not a proponent of giving antibiotics when we see one off but it’s always good to have them in case that way your not frantically looking for one if you do need it. Also some activated charcoal in case of toxin.
Thank you, those are good ideas. I like to use antibiotics sparingly too but will if necessary. Have you used the charcoal? What would the dosage be for it?

I forgot I recently opened the gate between the Ancona breeding pen and the mixed flock, so there are actually 3 drakes. But they have all left each other alone so far and haven't really merged.

If you could bring her inside so you can monitor her eating drinking and pooping [it's always good to see what their poop is looking like. ]
