So, if you'll all recall (??) I had four supposed to be pullets from a vent sexed run turn out to be two pullets and two cockerels. I had to get one of the cockerels rehomed since he was starting to more frequently go after the other rooster.
Anyway... fast forward to now: My two young Easter Egger hens and one remaining EE rooster turned 6 months old about 4 days ago. SO, the pullets started laying a few weeks earlier than their 6 month birthday. One of the two, Lucia, laid for about a week and a half and hasn't laid recently but otherwise seems absolutely fine. The other, Lucy, has not stopped laying since she started.
I've read that EE's typically begin laying at 7 months old (later than most breeds) so I was wondering if one of the two young hens (Lucy) might just be an early starter?
Another thing regarding Lucy is that for the most part, she lays every day? My older EE hens when they were younger always laid every other day? Is my one young EE hen just an 'over-achiever'
BTW- as a aside,,, I REALLY love my rooster (never had one before) Sandy - he's just full of personality and very friendly. I wish that I could have kept Norman
(), but I had concerns, just before the cockerels 6 month birthday (around 5 months old) that Norman was going to be a problem for Sandy (no blood drawn but Sandy was becoming scared of Norman - so I had to rehome him.
Here's a pic of Sandy with his two ladies.
