My young(9 week old, I believe) Emu snapped his leg in half/off about an hour ago. He has been living in my spare room since his buddy passed away(Cat got him outside) I was making dinner and heard horrible screaming. He had crawled up in the corner by the door like he always does, and I am guessing his foot went under the door crack at the bottom. When he tried to stand it must have been stuck and he freaked. He was still stuck in it when I got downstairs. He was flailing everywhere! I pulled him out and he was zooming around the room screaming. I had no idea what was wrong until I saw blood all over the floor and walls. I caught him and the bottom of his leg(foot?) Was hanging on just by skin. It had snapped in half just above the joint. Exposed bone. i called my sister who luckily lives just a few minutes away and got her to hold him with a towel over his head. I poured flour on it, wrapped a thick paper towel. Then wrapped with scotch tape and finally with vet wrap. I have done the same thing with my goats(Open fractures fixed with just scotch tape and vet wrap. 3 weeks later perfectly healed and on the go) I have never dealt with this in a bird before. I don't know if I can put a splint, it is so low on his foot I don't know how I would do it(and I don't want to take off what I hurriedly put on just yet) Does he need antibiotics? What else can I do? He is obviously still shaken up, but he was eager to eat and drink and is calming down. He was even walking around(With a limp, and I layed him down so he doesn't mess up the bone I just aligned back) I will try and get pics in the morning when all is hopefully settled down.

He broke his make shift cast off so I got a photo anyways. He was tring to walk on it too much and it snapped again

It was hard to see so I tried to trace it

Here is his new make shift cast(I didn't want to call my sister out again to I just held him until he relaxed and did my best) Hopefully he wont be able to walk/try to walk in this one. Still eating and drinking. Vocal(Not screaming or distress unless he tries to walk)and trying to peck the screen as I am writing this.

I know you've probably already found a solution, and idk if this would work but I got an idea. If he isn't healed already that is. Ive seen these little chicken and duck wheelchairs that are basically just a tarp with holes cut in the bottom for legs that have a pvc frame with wheels on the bottom so they can still move around. Maybe you could buy or make him one to ensure he doesn't put any pressure on that leg?
