One of our young hens started laying a couple of weeks ago. Her eggs have been normal, but a few days ago she started laying a second egg later in the day. This second egg is laid in various places around the run and always has a soft shell. It’s as if the second egg is passing through her too quickly to form a normal shell.
Can anyone offer insight?

It's a glitch. Her timing is off, hopefully it will resolve soon.

There's no way to prevent it, but I'd make sure she does have access to oyster shell free choice.

It probably wouldn't hurt to direct dose her with Extra Calcium for 3-5days (no more). Calcium Citrate+D3 tablet, once daily, just pop the tablet into the beak and let her swallow.
