6 mo old pullet, laying, I believe her to be New Hampshire, Rhode Island. She has a wound on top of her left foot- right where it bends to the leg. It looks a lot like bumblefoot, tallish swelling with what looks like a reddish bruise/wound. Other foot shows a reddish small wound, not swollen. My theory is she had a fall and hit her feet on something. They were all put into the big girls area 2 weeks ago, the pandimonium in their sorting out roosting and who's more important and gets the "better" roost space is calming down. I am experienced with cutting out bumblefoot cores, can't say I've ever actually cured it but have had some success.
What I want to know is I've no experience with cutting into the top of their feet. The large scales there are slightly pulled apart with the swelling. I'm thinking I might either give it a poke with an exacto blade to see of it's just a blood blister sort of thing- Hopefully that might relieve that swelling and help it to heal. She does not act like it hurts, no limping, foot seems to work ok. I'm worried I might disrupt the growing back of the scale or scales if it decides to come off when I'm mucking about.
Thanks for any thoughts about this!

Her other foot has a small red place that looked like she hit it on something also. No swelling on that foot, it's just the giant one in the pic. I've put iodine and antibiotic ointment on it 3 times so far, also given 2 doses of Amox 500 in case of infection. No limping or sign it hurts her. Has laid every day since I put her in isolation.

Well, this is nothing new. I am always the forgotten person. I will not come back. Been here for years.

No one has forgotten you. Sorry - not trying to come across snarky here, but you have 177 posts in 9 years. I usually have at least 100 alerts a day that I need to go through, so that takes a bit of time, so your patience is appreciated.

Personally, I would not lance the pullet's foot. I would get some Tricide Neo and soak her foot daily to see if that helps it heal.

I would also weigh her and give her the correct dose of Amoxicillin at 57mg per pound of weight twice a day for 7-10 days.

People who post late at night may need to wait until morning on the east coast for others to answer. I think I would consider soaking the foot in warm Epsom salts to help it heal. That does not look like bumblefoot, but an injury. I am surprised that she does not limp.
