I have a young rooster /cockerel that started limping about 5 days ago. I looked him over real good. No swollen joints, no bumblefoot, doesn’t appear to have a slipped tendon. I noticed he seems sensitive around his left thigh when I touch it. He does land hard when he jumps off roosts. Could this be a sprain or a pulled muscle? I currently have him isolated inside in a crate with easy access to food and water, and I have given him Poultry Cell and part of a baby aspirin. Has anyone experienced this? Is there anything else I could do?

Do you have other roosters or do the hens chase him off? I think that a sprain could be very possible. Usually forcing them to limit activity and preventing jumping down from the roost for a couple of weeks may help. Meloxicam is also good for inflammation.

He’s the only one. And at the moment he is a scaredy-cat towards my hens. They don’t mess with him, but with any slight movement from the hens (I.e just walking) he panics and runs in the coop and lays in a nest box. He’s very odd in that respect but is the biggest sweetheart. I’d say he’s about 5 ish months old now.

Did your rooster make a recovery? I’m experiencing the same issue. Been over a week with no improvement.
