We have a young rooster that really did a number on a young hen. They are about 22 weeks old and he's recently started showing special interest in the girls. Bright and early this morning we went out to feed/water the chickens and found the door that seperates the big girls/boys from the chicks that range between 3 week and 16 week was open and they were all mingling together. Thankfully none of the littler chicks or the bantams were hurt but my Leghorn hen was pretty badly beaten up. She was bloody and still being beat on by the other hens (the big girls). The rooster kept "jumping" her and had to be shoo'd away. The littler chicks and the silkies were all piled up in a corner, so I was a bit inclined to think it wasnt caused by one of them.
