I will take some more next week. I can't believe how rich his coloring is. I knew rouens looked like big, vivid mallards, but I figured since Bungie was a plain old hatchery duck, he wouldn't look so spectacular.
Can't wait until my latest mallard drake(let) poofs in new feathers!
He sounds like an idiot compared to my first mallard drake, and thinks he's a chicken.
But ducks and geese are SOOOO much cuter than chickie babies! So I don't mind what he thinks he is.
Mudslide loves me, but flaps his legs all over when I pick him up. He's very tame compared to my first mallards.

Yeah, I've noticed that female mallards have like an orange-ish colored beak, usually with heavy spotting of brown. Males start out with a greenish beak (when they're going through 'the change' since they all look alike when they're small) and it changes to a VERY bright yellow.
I've finally determined that my mallard Carl is indeed a Carl (and not a Carla). He's got a drake feather starting, a green tinge to his head, and he's got the raspy quack. Can't wait to see his feathers change too.
So glad to read this thread. I was starting to worry that my Rouen, Mandrake was going to have to be re-named Renee, since he was not getting any drake colors. But, he's not even six weeks, yet, so guess time will tell (and I might be seeing green
Bungie is looking a little scruffy right now, but I will upload some more photos when I get the camera recharged. The color change is progressing, but slowly.
