1 young cockerel & his 4 ladies for $225. I’d like them to all go together.
I also have 4 Swedish Orust pullets (hatched 8/15) that could be included for an additional $50 each, or take all 9 birds for $340.
I was planning to cross the Orusts with the Svarthhöna rooster as a project.
I personally hatched these beautiful and interesting birds from two separate batches, 8/17, and 8/22 - so they are roughly 22 weeks old. The girls have not begun laying due to their young age and shorter days, but could be supplemented with artificial light.
I live in a more urban setting, and feel this breed would be best suited where they have some ability to forage. They are curious, aren’t flighty or neurotic, but are not as friendly and pet-like as our other, longer domesticated breeds are. This is actually the main reason I’ve decided not to continue breeding them - as I have children who want our chickens to be backyard pets, rather than birds they have to appreciate less intimately haha.
The Orusts are very friendly and curious. They are actually my favorites, but I only decided to raise them with the intention of crossing them with the Svarthönas. Very curious to see what comes of their pairing.
The rooster is beautiful and completely non-aggressive. He is, however, harder to catch than his coop-mates, and our other rooster(s). He began crowing early, around 12-13 weeks.
I’ll be adding photos either this evening or tomorrow morning. I need to go out and take some current ones.
