Still so dry here, no measurable rain in a month. I lost one Chinese cabbage, possibly a second in bed #1.

Bed #4 is doing much better.

I've not replanted my carrots and beets, it's too dry.

Yes we do. I have a soaker hose on my butterbeans. I've been having to water everything I'm planting. Yesterday we were teased by a slight drizzle that lasted all of 5 minutes. Not enough to matter. Soil and compost is dusty.

I rolled up the hose yesterday. Totally forgot I need to water the beds where I'll plant onions and garlic, if Mother Nature doesn't.

That's a few weeks away yet. Hopefully she does it; I am not going to get 300+ feet of hose out and hooked up again until next spring.

Very light rain. The porch and mulch look wet!
I wish it would do this all day.

My bulbs are mostly up - but not flowering - will have to feed them better this year - for flowers next year.
Not much else being planted - far too busy trying to keep somewhere near on top of the weeds.

I really need to empty the compost bin and put the contents on the garden. Then turn the stuff in the collecting bin and get it started.

Planted 2 lbs. of Purple Viking potatoes. Pulled up a 5 gallon bucket of them.

Except for digging potatoes, the garden has given me all it's going to this year. The potatoes will be no small thing, though, that's for sure.

I might yet find a bean or two. There will be a LOT of spinning gourds, and I have no idea what to do with them. Right now, the plants are still growing, and there's plenty of room for them to keep doing so. I might chop a few in half, see if the chickens like to peck them. The gourds are small; the biggest ones are about 2- 2.5" in diameter.

I got my frost cloth today! Trying to decide if I should just put it up tomorrow and leave it up regardless of temperature. It would cut off the bees, cut down on the sunlight, and make it harder to monitor but it’s not even staying above the mid-50s at night at this point. I’ve seen some powdery mildew on the melon and the leaves are looking a bit sickly too I think the temps are contributing.

Sell 'em. Lots of people like decorating with them for fall.
