I've got 3 300' rolls of woven weed barrier for the garden this year. Less bending pulling weeds. One is 3' wide, one 4 wide, and one is 6' wide. This is a first time trying a new way of planting. It does allow for closer spacing for a lot of things like broccoli, cabbage, bok choi, etc.

I tried weed barrier a long time ago. Had to cover it with dirt to keep it from blowing away. The dirt on top gave a place for the weed seeds to grow.

It also deteriorated over time making a real mess.

Did you try landscape staples?

Just an example. They work well enough for us.

I have no idea what we're doing this year. Probably cherry tomatoes (we practically always do tomatoes).

I'd REALLY like to try growing nasturtium, mexican gherkins, and tomatillo.

Dangit... Did you use the fabric type or the stuff that's more plastic-y? I do notice that after a few years the fabric stuff does deteriorate and I find pieces of it all over the place. Especially with all the chipmunks we have around, they rip right through it

Fabric, sun here deteriorates plastic very fast. No fun at all trying to pick up pieces of plastic.

The only solution I can think of for the wind is to border it with rocks or landscaping bricks/stones. But that won't help with the sun. :/

We lay our landscaping cloth about 2-4 inches below the surface... For some reason. That absolutely doesnt prevent shallow-root plants from growing on top. And grass shoots poke through it easily, as I discovered last spring when I had to pull tons of grass out of the front garden by hand. AND burying it speeds up the deterioration of the material. The plastic stuff would probably work better in our case, but I don't like the idea of using plastic for ecological reasons.

Yeah the Ferry Morse grow lights were $45 too

If you have a Walmart or Lowes nearby check where the household lighting fixtures are. I purchased 2 ft LED plant grow lights for about $25 each. I added more last year. You can safely link up to 10 together.

I like these better than the same size Ferry Morris lights I had previously. The FM lights I had quit in there 3rd year.
