I can't start my seeds in the green house until mid-late-March at the earliest. Hubby has talked about setting up lights in the basement. We'll see if he was serious when I mention it.

Does anyone use heated seed mats to start seeds?

I do. It really makes a diff with peppers.

Enough new seed arrived today to keep me busy starting plants for a day or maybe three.

Not in the garden but maybe a few in containers of sterile soil. There is a virus here that wipes them out before they can ripen more than 2-3 and it's not worth the expense or time or labor to plant a row for canning only to watch them all die. We used to put out 300 or more plants a year for marketing. Miss those days.

Kewalo looks like a good one for the south with multiple disease resistance, heat & humidity tolerance, and it's heirloom! From Hawaii. I haven't tried it yet, but I plan to!

TSWV and TMV are two of our worst problems. I bought seeds for that and some for others. I'll be planting then on woven fabric so that soil can't splash on on the leaves. Lower leaves will be pruned ASAP. This year I went back to one of my old time best suppliers for some of my seed and that is Burpee. Some were bought from Totally Tomatoes and some from Hoss. For our area Celebrity Plus looks to be the best as a slicer. I know they will can well but there are better paste tomatoes. For sauces and ketchup we are gambling on these:

There are several more varieties that we are testing with a dozen or more plants each. We are still hoping to have a couple dozen in a raised bed planted in a sterile soil hopefully will insure we and extended family and neighbors have plenty to eat fresh.

I wanted some Super Sauce and may try them again. They didn't grow well for us on top of the Cumberland Plateau in TN. I may yet try them this year as with their size you can slice them for sandwiches.

They are not one of the more disease resistant varieties.

Wish I could get my seed potatoes from Fedco. We plant Irish potatoes here mid February and they do not ship until April. They have so many varieties to choose from I'd love t try several of them.
