The brother's hip is still quite sore as his replacement surgery was rather involved. He doesn't think he'll be able to get around to do much in the garden this summer. All the tomatoes, peppers, and other seeds I started in trays for him while I was up there have been given to a neighbor to grow out.
They had a new grandbaby and the wife went down to Pennsylvania to meet the little one and help her daughter with the older kids and the household for a month. The husband was busy with the dairy and getting crops of hay and corn planted and cutting trees that had fallen over winter. Needless to say, they didn't get anything started and were very grateful for all the veg plants Brother brought over. They're going to share some of the garden bounty back with him. A win-win all around.
The potatoes that were sprouting in Brother's refrigerator drawer I'd planted in empty 50# dog food sacks that I'd turned into grow bags. He brought them up by the house so he can water them and add compost easily. That and the Comice pear I started from a seed out of a Henry& David gift basket are all the growing he's committing to for this summer.
The bear has visited a few more times but not done any more damage. However, he mentioned that a few days ago he forgot to shut the outside door to the porch when the dogs went out before bed. He woke up to a raccoon helping himself to breakfast in the bag of dog food.

Ugh, so jealous of everyone's longer growing season. I'm going to be just putting my garden in this weekend

But there's so much you can grow up there in that beautiful lush green state of yours that just struggles down south. Happy gardening, trippy!

I need to wait a few more days, then start hardening the plants off. So I won't be planting plants in the garden for about 7-10 days.

Ordering 2 varieties of Acorn Squash and a red winter squash seeds along with some Delta F1 yellow squash today. The Delta variety is exceptionally productive here for us. The Table King Acorn did well for us in MO and hoping they do here too. Pondering a few more. Not pulling the order trigger until later today. We may get a passing shower later today. Pump is making it rain on the cabbage patch along with the Muscadines that border the cabbage patch on both sides. I'm piddling outside for not more than a half hour at a time in the low 90's heat today.

I have 5 gallon pots delivered today so replanting on them.
