I thought you had to wait until you had some red tomatoes on the plant before you could use any green ones. I remember hearing that somewhere

I do not have to do much hardening off of plants that have been growing in the greenhouse. They get lots of sun and breezes with all the windows open.

Anything put outside the greenhouse is fair game for the deer so I cover them at night. They are mostly safe once planted in the fenced garden. I had been using some old sheets to cover. I recently was doing some cleaning out and came across some old sheer curtains. I was going to throw them away they had yellowed from age. They have made nice sheer plant coverings. Very light weight and helps with insects too. Glad I saved them.

Speaking of green..

Squash picked today:

The round green ones are an Argentine variety, Zapallitto del Tronco. I bought the seeds on impulse, and just discovered that they are a maxima type of squash, which don't attract squash borers and bugs.

And they have a taste very similar to zucchini, just firmer and not quite as moist.

No picture, but today I saw buds on the pumpkin vines.

We just sliced them 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick.
Salt and Pepper.
Lightly flour. Dunk into beaten egg. Flour one more time. This process helps the breading stick.
Fry in cast iron skillet in your fav oil.
Eat hot with or without ketchup, bbq sauce, etc.

You can add other seasonings such as garlic or onion powder or cayenne pepper. What ever you like.
Same for summer squash. Younger squash work best for me.

You would probably have to sub the flour for one more suitable for you.

The green face matches the green tomatoes.

You tell your hubby he should give them a try!
