Your 2025 Garden

Planning now for next year. Nothing in the ground. MRI says Just Don't Do It. Getting tomatoes and lots of peppers. First year for Paprika peppers. Need to get them dehydrated and ground. Would like to smoke some before drying and see what the difference is.
Oh, let me know. I never smoked mine last year, just dried them to make paprika. I also made a three pepper powder that was bell, jalapeno, and paprika. It was so good

I snuck out before the heat hit this morning and grabbed some lettuce. It’s definitely bolting but it didn’t taste too bitter yet.

I also noticed leaf miners in one of my kale pots. I couldn’t figure out why it was only that one but it’s the only single pot in that area. The big planters all got a dose of beneficial nematodes (so those are working, yay!) and the other pots get regularly dosed with BT from the mosquito dunk in the watering can.

I went to the garden very early yesterday. Picked lots of tomatoes and squash. Helped the pickling cucumbers up their trellis. I had to remove 1 pumpkin plant because the foliage looked bad. Greenbeans look poorly because of all the rain and now extreme heat but the butterbeans look good. Sweet potato foliage is growing well. I noticed several small watermellons and butternut squash.
By this time is was already getting so hot I had to go.

Planted really old bean seeds. Most of them didn't come up. Replanted with not quite as old bean seeds.
Yeah, some of what I had in my seed box was getting pretty old, too. Surprisingly, a good number of the 2019 seeds sprouted just fine.

Not surprisingly, as things got newer germination got better.

The biggest surprise was that of the few packets I had from as far back as 2014, the Tuscan melon not only sprouted but is currently outperforming both the Tommy Apple and Golden Jenny bought last year from Baker Creek.

The biggest disappointment was the curled parsley bought this year at a local store. Just ONE seed had the will to survive. Crispus is holding his own amongst his flat leaves relatives.

I spent two hours watering one of my gardens today. I soaked each plant with the hose. I was SURE that would make it rain, but NOOOOOOOO! It all went around us.

We have a couple more days of possible rain. I have my doubts.
