Your 2025 Garden

The sweet potatoes have completely filled their trellis. Bees and hummingbirds are loving the blooms. The vines are trying to invade the squash. I keep tucking them back as best I can. I hope they are making taters.

I am still picking tomatoes. Plants are loosing bottom leaves but the tops are still growing.

They reached the top of the post and leaning back down. Hope i can keep them alive to ripen these.

There are other things you can do with your green tomatoes besides frying them.

Green tomato pie
Green tomato relish
Tomato stew with equal parts ripe, semi ripe and green tomatoes
Pickled green tomatoes

The melon bed is a mass of vines now. I take a stick and lean in to look. There is stuff happening underneath!

If I have to pull green ones I may try some of these. A friend gave me a jar of pickled green tomatoes a few years back. They were very good.

My garden is small compared to most of yours, it seems, but doing pretty well for dry California. I have some weeds to pull after being away for two weeks, but was able to harvest tomatoes, onions, peppers, lettuce, beans, and potatoes for dinner the other night, so I am happy. The cage is to keep the chickens out! We set up overhead sprinklers.

Back when Campbell's soup casseroles and Jell-O everything else ruled the kitchen, my mom tried a recipe from one of the ladies magazines - Mock Strawberry Jam. The main ingredients were green tomatoes and a box of strawberry Jell-O. Had to be stored in the refrigerator, I imagine but I wouldn't swear to it.
