Your 2025 Garden

I saw flower buds on my first planting of beans.

My zucchini plants are going gangbusters. 6 hills, 2 plants each. What was I thinking?

How do you all freeze/preserve zucchini?

Oooo!!! Does zucchini bread freeze well?
It freezes very well. So does banana bread. I wrap the bread in plastic wrap, then in foil. Sometimes I'll then put it in a freezer bag

Fig tree is doing well this year. I decided to set up the dehydrator that I bought last fall.

I added one tray of strawberries, and just added a second tray of figs!

Aww, man - I'm a bit envious.

The neighbors 4 doors down when I moved here had a big (a bit taller than the one-story house) beautiful fig tree that they shared produce from.

Sadly, one summer night their adult son passed out drunk under the tree and the cigarette he'd been smoking caught the dry grass and litter on fire. The whole neighborhood got woken up by firetruck sirens around 2 in the morning. Flames were shooting into the sky and that was the end of the fig tree.

Every now and again I'll be driving past their house and think about that gorgeous tree with its delicious fruit and my sweet neighbor lady who grew the most unusual plants in town.

Pro tip - when freezing any sort of bread or cake, lay it out on waxed, freezer, or parchment paper in the freezer for a couple hours before placing in the vacuum sealer.
Erm, or so I've heard. 🥴

I vacuum sealed a warm banana bread. Condensed it to a fourth or a third of its original size. It was extremely dense and wonderful.

Previously and since, I only wrap banana bread in aluminum foil for freezing. Since it doesn't really freeze solid, I will open the foil, cut a slice off, close the foil and return the remainder to the freezer and eat the slice while still frozen.
