We should all be snowed in for a week and watch each other's favorite films!!! I pretty much like every one that's been mentioned so far.
MY personal favorite film, if you FORCE me to pick just ONE:
"Casablanca"
Richard Blaine is the reluctant hero, beaten up for sticking up for the little guy and lost causes. Ilsa Lund is NOT a glamorous love interest, but rather, a weak follower, who distracts our heroes, Blaine, Lazlo and Renault. (Guys, this is NOT the "chick flick" I had always thought it was, before I made myself watch it!) They ALL three shake off their inertia, and renew the "good fight" at the end. MY kind of a happy ending!!
BTW, debiraymond, you OWE it to yourself to watch THIS earlier version of "The Four Feathers":
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0031334/
The author of the book had a 'love affair' with the character, "Lieutenant Willoughby", and loses track of his plot line. That's why it has been filmed about a dozen times, (so far,) and each version tries to make sense of the story. THIS version, from the 1930's is heart-wrenching, but satisfies in the very last scene.
We could use a thread about favorite TV miniseries...
