Your favourite 'dual purpose' meat breed?

I've found my Delaware's to be very meaty birds, that have a very high egg production as well. The very epitome of a dual purpose breed.

Pretty much what I said. It is my dark cornish that are straight meat birds.

Those look great! They may not be "grocery store pretty," but I'm sure they were homegrow delicious. Did the Orp/Del cross have the super dark leg quarter meat that a BO typically has?

ETA: The Orp/Del cross appears to have more breast meat. And I just reread, it was bigger quicker.

This is great information, thank you.

Today I processed a few birds

The Orp was the oldest (and meanest--there for in freezer camp) he dressed out at 5.5 pounds. It wasn't easy getting my hand inside to clean him out.

The Delaware is about 10 months and he dressed out at 3.5 pounds. Not easy to get inside him either

The third was a Light Sussex who was about 7 months old. He dressed out at 4.5 pounds and I didn't have a problem cleaning him out. He was just a little bigger and more flexible.

The last was just a very crooked toe White rock. Young, only about 8 weeks. He dressed out at 1.5 pounds.

The old Roos were really hard to process. Their skin was like leather. I hope they taste ok for soup!
