Naturally acid soil. Most hydrangeas react to the acidity of the soil. Because our soil is so acid I do not do anything special and they are deep blue. The hard part for me is if I want pink. I'd have to use a lot of lime and do it each year.

Determined to have a pink one at least 1 time in my life. I rooted some cuttings and put them in miracle grow potting soil in a half barrel. Beautiful pink blooms! Problem was, it was hard to keep it moist in a pot in the awful heat of our summers. I gave up.

So thankfully I am happy with blue.
A lot less work for me! 🤣

Edited to add Thank you very much!

The daylilies by my front walk are starting to bloom this week! These are true ditch lilies, I literally dug them up out of a ditch on the side of a road.

And my purple milkweed is in full bloom right now.

My irises are just finished blooming for the spring, but the cosmos are just starting to take off!

I love your bottle tree! Cobalt blue is a favorite color of mine. I have some various "junk" pieces (an old Noxema jar -- remember that stuff?) sitting on a window sill.
Thank you! DH and a buddy built the tree for me and supplied the bottles (beer). 😂

Cobalt blue is a favorite color of mine too.
I have several junk pieces, some vases and stuff and an early 1900s med bottle I bought for 50 cents at a garage sale.
I love the way sunlight hits them in the windows!

As for noxema...I remember the burn and watering eyes! 😆

This is what I call my "Shop Garden" (because it's next to my woodworking shop.. :p), and it's probably my best flower garden yet. The creeping phlox is just starting to fade now but other flowers are coming!! There's creeping phlox, garden phlox, hostas, perennial geraniums, irises, speedwell, astilbe, mini daffodils, and pansies.

This looks amazing! How do you keep your chooks out of the garden scratching it up and eating the flowers? I'm landscaping with free range chooks and I feel they are just going to terrorise any flowers I grow :(

Thank you! I don't free range anymore. When I used to free range I had to fence off my flower gardens, at least until the plants were big and sturdy enough to withstand the chickens foraging and dust bathing in the beds. Not a lot of plants can take that.

So true. I have no grass, nor any plants in my yard it’s just dirt (which of course they love bathing in) I want to plant marigolds and other awesome plants but I know they will be eaten very quickly so not sure how to establish a garden!

I planted marigolds next to my chicken run last year and my chickens didn’t even touch them🤣
