I'm new to chickens so my first group will only be a year old next week (but I've had no losses in this year). I just read in one of Gail Damerow's books that the maximum lifespan of a chicken is 35 YEARS!

Two of my hens are about 8 yrs old - one bantam and one standard. The large one still produces eggs from time to time. The bantam popped a few here and there but this summer went broody twice, laid six eggs each time but has probably given up since I broke up her little nest both times. They are both in great shape.
