Hi All,
We will be getting our chicks in 2 weeks and I wanted to know what you thought of combining these breeds. Any potential trouble makers, enemies, or victims? Any good experiences or funny stories? We have 2 small kids and I am looking for (fairly) friendly, docile, quiet breeds that are decent layers.
Here's what we are expecting:
1 Americauna
1 Speckled Sussex
1 Blue Cochin
2 Silver Laced Wyandottes
4 Rhode Island Reds (those are for my mom and I will be handing them over to her after a couple weeks)
1 Light Brahma (possibly....I haven't actually ordered one, but I'm kind of liking the look of them and have heard they are great with kids)

I appreciate any thoughts and comments you might have on these breeds and the combining of them.
Thanks,
Angie

I Like The Cochins For Pets, They Have Great Personalitlys.. All Of Them Together Should Be Ok. You Just Never Know Is You Will Get A Rouge Chicken That Might Cause Troulbe. Good Luck.

I have a young cochin (9 months) and she still avoids humans like the plague (I got her at three months). Have yet to get an egg. She's usually very quiet, which is typical of cochins, but sometimes she deviates and makes a huge racket (usually when humans are around).

I have a couple Rhode Island Red cross hens... and they can be very noisy. Yappy is the most talkative (fitting name, eh?), but Quiet Hen exhibits a known RIR trait - aggression toward other chickens. She regularly pecks at Yappy and Cochina for no reason. Both of my RIRs are great layers, but Yappy's eggs are consistently larger than store eggs.

Good luck!
