Your worst and best Christmas present ~

Quote:
You made your mother cry. Shameful.

Why isn't your photo on the men's page? And don't feign ignorance.

It was happy crying, and I take most of the pics around here, so I'm not in them. I'll have to take one this weekend.

Here's one to tide ya over:

Does your MIL have dogs, or does wrapping gifts make her salivate?

From what I can figure she bought it for the spaniel a few days before and then got ticked at me for having to work when she wanted to have Christmas dinner (a week early) and wrapped it up for me.

I wasn't even that nice about it. MIL has done some horrible things to try and get 'her' son back. She really burns me she does.... Haven't spoken to her in 3 years, 2 months, 3 weeks and 4 days..... I refuse to speak to that..... person.

Well, as long as your not thinking about it too much...

Isn't that weird? I imagined you'd be way heavier and a lot older.

That one's from last year. I'm now heavier and older.

Worst . . . gift cards. For the amount of thought that goes into that I would have rather had the cash so I could choose where to spend it, and not wind up with that little $1.16 at the end that never gets spent.

Best . . . my cockatiel. All my favorite gifts have been animals, and she's been my constant companion for 17 years.

Myself aside, the best gift I've ever seen given was two years ago when a saddle was presented to my grandmother by my aunts, uncles, and mother. Her father died back in the early 80s, and the one thing she wanted to remind herself of him was his saddle, since they had headed so many rodeos and trail rides together. Unfortunately it got lost in the confusion of the funeral and things, and was accidentally sold at a garage sale. My aunt saw the saddle in a home where she was at a party over two decades later, and she and the siblings paid an arm and a leg to get it back in the family. Tears were streaming down my grandmother's cheeks that Christmas morning as she stroked the worn part on the back of the saddle where her father had rested his hand while riding.

Worst?

My MIL's gifts have ranged from a home hair removial set from MIL #1 (I didn't need it she was just mean), to a used platter from MIL #2 (still had food crusts dried on) to an iron and crockpot from MIL #3 (I gave the iron to a neighbor when hers broke before work and she asked to borrow mine).

Best? Engagement ring.

After years of bad gifts, I usually get a giftcard.

All of my worst gifts have been from the MIL. One year I got some ugly shirt that was wrapped in wet soggy paper that her 7 non-house trained dogs peed on repeatedly. That same year she gave me footie pajamas, you know the kind that babies wear. That was the same year (our first year married) that she wrote a 11 page long list of all the things I had done wrong while we were visiting for the holiday, which included getting the flu. Which she called us over to read aloud to the both of us hours before we were leaving for the airport. (She's a dream!)The list goes on and on. We've been married 18 yrs now, so there have been MANY more bad gifts and MANY more lists of things I have done wrong (one being an email in which she said she felt we did not love our daughters enough and perhaps we should "give them back" as they are adopted. Lovely!).

Best gift- the Paddington Bear my Mom made me when I was little, which included his suitcase and a pair of pajamas that matched the ones my Dad used to wear, and a set of boks all about Paddington.
