Zane... An Update for Those Interested

I was gonna ask if Zane's leg was warm or cold also...
Glad that there's some circulation there.

And I so so so agree with Ellie.

Anything do with love and good intent is never wasted.

Cyn,
I haven't read the entire thread, but wanted to mention that if your roos leg is warm he has circulation; this however is a separate issue from motor innervation. If he does have some motor nerve damage your physical therapy (range of motion) is nothing but helpful. Depending on the nature of the damage to the nerve, if this is the issue, it can regenerate but it can take a long time; at least in humans. If the extremity has not been moved much for quite some he probably has some atrophy (muscle wasting/death) that will also hinder movement. Range of motion therapy is beneficial to his rehabilitation, depending on the pathology of his injury, and certainly does not hurt in the long run even if he never regains active use of his limb. As well as ranging his leg, move each toe through its natural movement range working proximal-distal (near the body down to the tips of the toes). Massage prior to the ranging will also help increase circulation that bathes all internal structures in nutrients and aids healing as well as movement. If you encounter resistance, stretch slowly and move the the extremity rhythmically but don't pull hard or too much as it may hurt or damage tightened structures. The idea is to increase range slowly over time for the stretch of the muscles/tendons/ligaments to normal range while also encouraging full circulation.
Good luck, you are doing nothing but good for this boy regardless of the final outcome.

Cyn I have to agree with Hawke as I have nerve damage in my left arm and it took a year for me to move it after my injury and the color is not the same as my other hand and arm.

Off to surgery, but sending prayers for you and yours. Will be back to check as soon as I can figure out how to with my right shoulder out LOL should be sometime tonight or tomorrow. At least I hope LOL

Portia, thank you for weighing in on this. It confirms that we are doing the right things because we are doing exactly what you said in your post. Jean, check in when you can after your surgery-I'm sure it will go well for you.

So, do I dare ask if today is going a little better for everyone?

(It's flippin' freezing, here now. .. grumble)

Cyn, I have been so caught up lately in the canning postings that I haven't been aware of what was going on with Zane. Sounds like good news! He will be fine, I believe in him and you and
Tom.

Hey everyone thanks for the prayers and thoughts. Surgery was a no go, got all the way up there and they didn't remember I am alergic to latex. It was all over the charts but someone missed it. Thank God the nurse caught it. So had to change the day to this coming Monday. Don't even ask how I feel about fasting for 15 hours and finding a driver for the day and driving 1 1/2 hours one way and then have to do it over again this Monday LOL Good thing I am easy going LOL. I sure do believe everything happens for a reason. Maybe I will get everything I need to get done, done before I am laid up LOL.

Hope Velvet and Zane are doing better.
