Zane Made REAL Progress (New Pics Pg 99)!RIP Lorelei...

I've missed a few days checking in......So sorry things haven't looked up and now the added ones...

I read this thread and thought of my Lucas. It is so heart sinking to not be able to help them.

I did try a treatment on Lucas, can't recall now what the treatment was for, but I was giving the Vit E/Selenium along with prednisone. He really perked up after a few days on that.

I got the link from Diana, maybe she can remember and share it with you.

Hopes and Prayers that they all snap out of this!!

Carrie, I just dont know what to think-I'm wondering why my girls, half my original flock, is suddenly about to die from reproductive issues at two and a half years old when they get the best quality feed plus oyster shell calcium and yogurt, etc, and in general, the very best care in every way I know how. When keeperofthehearth said her birds died within months of each other at the same age, that seemed quite a coincidence to me. We always hear about sexlinks burning out soon since they lay like gangbusters the first two years, but that doesn't necessarily mean they die, just slow way down on the laying. Zane's problem has nothing to do with my girls' issues, though. I did hatch him here, but his injury was just that, an injury.

I went backward to page 41 and found, I believe six who are or have lost birds like you are. I didn't go any further as I was trying to find the other threads I remember seeing but didn't read about hatchery problems. I don't know if they are about chicks or grown hens. I do think you are on to something. Possibly pm these folks and see where they got their chicks??? Just a thought.

Many prayers for you and your Zane and the girls!

Could it be Merck's?

Gee, I wish there is a chicken vet here on BYC!!!!! Where are they when we need them???

You would think at over 10,000 members we would have access to an avian vet!

Kitty, I have started to find my other SLW's eggs a bizarre shape with wrinkles on the end, but just really strangely shaped. She doesn't seem to have trouble laying, but her eggs have never been a weird shape before now.
Robin, I dont think this has anything to do with Marek's. This really seems to be something reproductive. Both Ruby and Rosemary have been sitting long periods on the nest, then they'll stand like they're going to lay that egg, and strain and strain, then eventually, just leave the nest without laying. Lorelei and Lacy didnt do that, at least this time. Lorelei did that last summer when she had problems the first time, but eventually it worked itself out somehow. Lacy, who died a few months ago, showed no real symptoms, other than one day she was sitting down like she didn't feel great. I picked her up, checked her over and she seemed fine, hadn't even lost weight that I could tell. In two days, I found her dead. We did open her up and all her organs seemed healthy that we could tell, but there was loose yolk all in her abdomen where it shouldn't have been. None of them are doing the penguin stance like they are eggbound; in fact, we can feel no egg at all inside. It's almost like someone flipped a switch on my flock and started shutting them down!

Mine don't seem to be having trouble laying their eggs either. They are just really wrinkles-the whole egg!

As for where mine came from it's Sunnyside hatchery in Beverdam, WI.
