I have been following this thread closely Cyn. I am so sorry to hear this terrible news.

I don't know if you know who James Herriot is, but he was a country veterinarian in the thirties. I have read all of his books, and one of the things that he did a few times was "put to sleep" an animal, but not in the way you are thinking. If he didn't think that an animal would make it as it was, but that if given a chance to heal it could live, he would give it enough sedative to keep it asleep for a day or two, and keep giving it sedative every time it began to awaken for several days. Both of the times he documented this, the animal recovered. Is there any way you could get your hand on some sedative? Something that you can inject and knock him out? Talk about grasping at straws, but maybe worth a shot?

chickentheir is right about James Herriott's remedy when all else failed. I think his books are a must read for all who live in the country. Love them.

Jess, I have read one of his books, or maybe it was a collection of his stories. I didn't remember that, though. I don't have a sedative like that, only an old dog sedative.
Zane is still here. I hold him and he stretches his neck over my shoulder. He's so pale, I just hate seeing him that way. If my DH would agree, I may call a local vet and see if he's ever seen any poultry. He does work for us poor people around here, LOL, and doesn't charge an arm and a leg. Maybe there's a way to get an xray or have the vet check him over some. When I set Zane down on the ground, he just pops. Something is definitely out of whack, but I just dont know what.

I will definitely let you know, I promise. Late today, I made him some oatmeal, my own maple-flavored stuff, with buttermilk and chopped pumpkin seeds. He actually was eating it pretty well! Maybe he was just tired of eggs and yogurt, LOL. He also ate some of his Rooster Booster pelleted feed. I hope DH will let me call the doc tomorrow and ask about an xray for Zane. If not, then as long as he's eating and drinking like he did later today, maybe I'll just let him be still and rest and give him more time.
