My zebra Finches have hatched two chicks they have both fledged about a week ago but still can't fly, parents are feeding them, mum died this morning will dad be able to keep the going we have put food and water in the bottom of the cage.

Do you have any soft food in the cage for the little ones? They probably can eat a little bit on their own but might not be able to crack shells open yet. The pet stores sell dried egg biscuit. You can add some water to make a mush. You can also offer hard boiled egg that has been mashed. I used to make a soft food out of jars of pureed baby food. I'd mix carrots, egg, spinach, and rice cereal. This can be frozen in ice cube trays and thawed as needed. It can also be offered as a treat when the birds are grown. Dad should be able to handle it by himself if he's been helping out all along.

I'm sorry you lost your mother finch. The Dad should do fine feeding the young ones though. You could offer millet sprays and soaked seed to the little ones too. Soaked seed is easier to crack for the chicks - just soak normal seed in water for 3-8 hours, drain in a sieve, rinse well and feed. My birds love it and for ages that's what I fed my young Java finches as they eat less and don't make quite so much mess with it.
