Zest is an "oops" rooster. He just started trying to figure out how to crow and doesn't have the hang of it yet. 😂 (Or maybe this is how Icelandics crow?) And Ted, my dominant mature(ish) rooster, isn't happy with this whole situation. You can hear him whining in the background at the end of the vid.

I have an Icelandic flock and this is how my roos started out as well. They mostly mastered it eventually but some better than others. It's a more high pitched crow with different "syllabification" than other roosters I've known.

I remember when my roosters started crowing. My RIR sounded like he was being strangled and would end in a gurgling noise. He crowed like that until he was about 10 months.

Turns out my second vid in this thread is Lemon, Zest's twin brother. (It's been too long and won't let me edit the post now.) It was hard to tell them apart unless side by side. I eventually banded their ankles different colours.

Lemon & Zest both got sick recently. Zest rallied but Lemon passed away gently and quietly in his sleep last night. I'm not too upset about it. I have too many roosters and would've had to cull some eventually anyway, so I didn't let myself get too attached. Also, he was sickly, right from the beginning, and I didn't think he'd even make it this long. He was named Lemon for a reason.

I sent a stool sample into the lab last Thurs and am awaiting results. Long story, but I suspect mycotoxicosis (moldy food). I've since dealt with the suspect food. Chalk it up to my learning curve. sigh

Poor little guy. 😔

In memory of Lemon, here's a vid of the twin brothers dueting.

Sorry for your loss. :hugs
