zip ties on quail legs

I am setting my quails to start a spiral breeding program.
The males I can keep track of with out marking them, but I was wondering if any one has used zip ties on adult quails legs to keep track of their ages.
I would be using a different color to indicate hatch/birth date so I knew when to cull and make room for new layers.
The ones I have are about 1/8 inch wide and 4 inches long. I would trim off the extra length.

As long as you don't let them get tight as they grow, I don't see why you can't use them.
