I am just so sad right now. I had this little silkie guy pip on Thursday (40hrs ago) not make any progress til about an hour ago.
He fully zipped his shell very quickly, then died.
I can believe it. This is a first for me.
I'm wondering if he died from exhaustion because I cannot find anything obviously wrong with him.
There's a little blood in the bottom of his shell and his unabsorbed yolk is about the size of two peas.

Awww, poor baby... I'm sorry for your loss, it's really hard losing chicks after rooting for them for so long. I've lost nearly-hatched babies twice and it's so disappointing.

i give them 24 hours then i go in and help. I have found certain breeds need help vs others. Turkens are the worst and my bantams are too!

Sorry for your loss~

Thanks guys,
Maybe taking him out at 24hrs would have helped.
It's so funny he zipped so fast when he finally did it.
The zipping was so vigorous the last thing I expected was him to die when he made it all the way around the egg.

it happens. I had one who zipped but couldn't finish. It had a small hole on the under side of the egg. I didn't see it and thought it never started and still needed to zip/pip. When i turned it over i was so mad at myself cause it needed my help but i had no clue. it died, It happens~

Yeah, I had no clue either.
I figured it's zipped now, hard part over.
Thanks for sharing your experience with me

When something happens the first time it's easy for me to think it has only happened me.
Just part of getting my hatching degree
