Help!!!!!!! My first time broody Coal has grabbed one of my other broodys chicks. As I type the chick is sitting in my hand cheeping softly. It's little neck was torn and it's back is bare. Poor baby.

The 2 broodys and their familys are in the same little coop seperated by a screen.

What should I do? I want to save it but I'm wondering if I should cull it. I don't really want to do that but I don't want the chick to suffer.

Please help me.

If I were you, I would put an antibiotic ointment on the wounds and set the little fella up in a makeshift brooder til he heals. He isn`t gonna like being alone, but any others you put with him will make his wounds worse. After he looks pretty much healed, you can try to slip him under his mom at night. She may or may not notice, so be there in the morning when she wakes up to rescue the tyke if she rejects him.

As for the hens and the reason for the attack. That`s why people in the know will tell you to keep broodies seperated. Live and learn. I`ve been at this for 51 years and I`m still learning.......Pop

maybe change your title saying..broody attacks chicks!-killer broody? I'm not sure but I almost overlooked your title because I dont have a broody-put something more in your title??

If you have a stuffed animal, you can put it in with the chick to keep it company. It may be peeping because it's scared and alone.
Put some antiobiotic creme on the wounds, and just make sure it drinking. You could make a wet mash with the food. I've read amazing stories of survival on this forum- I think as long as they stay warm and quiet, and hydrated, they have a good chance of healing. I'm sure someone with actual experience will chime in with suggestions.

I'm late to the thread, but if the chick is only a couple of days old, shouldn't the brooder be more like 95 degrees? Maybe it needs to be warmer... I got mine by mail order, and I was told 95 for the first week, then drop by about 5 degrees per week until getting close to 80 and/or they had their "permanent feathers" (not just down). Maybe the poor little guy is too cold? I wish you well with your little injured chickie!
