Zoe is alive!!!!

It survived the night. The chick is almost 2 weeks old. For the temporary brooder I'm using a regalur lamp and a carboard box. I did put a little stuffed toy in the box for it and it snuggled with it right away. The chick thinks that I must be her mamma or something like that. Because whenever it doesn't see me it cheeps really loudly like a chick that is wondering where its mamma is. It's pretty cute.

Update.......
The broody that attacked the chick has abandoned her own chick. I found it all cold hardly moving. I put it in the temporary brooder and it's seems to be doing better. It's moving around now and cheeping pretty loudly.

Coal wasn't teaching her chick to eat or drink at all. I don't think that she's a very good broody at all.

Tommorrow morning I'm going to kick her out of the Clutch Hutch and give it all to Chili and her chicks. In a week or 2 I'm going to see if she'll except her chick back and the other chick too.

I named the first chick Zoe which means LIFE considerating she survived the night.

It is a rare and special broody that will accept a chick that is not hers so stay very close when you try to re-introduce them.

Even the injured one will not be considered hers because it has been away for awhile.

A month ago my broody hatched 6 eggs and tossed 4 out of the nest. I put the four eggs in a shoebox and draped a heating pad on top of the box with a little dish of water in the box. Three days later I had a chick hatch, candled the other 3 eggs and they weren't developed at all. I kept the chick in the house with me a few days then took her out to the broody and while distracting the broody with some scrambled eggs I put the chick under her. She took to the chick beautifully and all are doing well today :)

I hope it all goes well for you. My duck and chicken that are broody together in trough nest are getting along really well. The chick that the duck hatched is eating and drinking and if I try and get close to it both broodies get nasty. I'm sorry Coal didn't do too well as a broody, I'd share one of mine if I could. Charlotte, Steven's little girl will accept any baby that needs a momma.
