i also feel that after looking for issues a Bully chicken is not always at complete fault for bad / peace disrupting behavior.

You have a beautiful set up. I have a side pen for a Drake, I call it his apartment. Because jail sounds like punishment to me and visitors. He has an apartment for time to adjust his thinking, behavior or just let some extra hormones run their course. I will include either a condo or sanctuary in future coop projects as well

Great job!

Great inspiring stories.
I too tend to be found by lost and or struggling new friends and get attached very quickly. It is hard for me to say no if I know/or think I can help.

Thank you for sharing tears with me ;)

there is more to a bully than high school type behavior. Chickens do not have human emotion or attachments.

The pecking order is what creates harmony in the coop. And the "bully" could be addressing other issues from another hen. Top Hen is a big responsibility in the coop, not just a behavior or gluttonous thing.

Over crowding is more than boredom and should be addressed.
Brooding is not a want to it is a have to! it is instinctual and hormonal. Breaking is a good idea for many reasons. But it is animal instinct not bad behavior.

I think without further research new people could get the wrong idea.

Watch your flock and address the issues. Feather plucking could be due to diet.

Yes some chickens can be bullies, but I never assume that without ruling out if the bully is disciplining a disruptive hen or being challenged for her spot. Pecking order is a necessity.

I did not mean to sound Raney, but I think this article needs to address understand the flock dynamic before assuming bad behavior.

This article was so well written The story book like education was perfect!
I laughed I cried ( remembering some of my boys)
My Lulu is a love. He is the rooster people do not believe exists! He takes care of his ladies well and is always happy to see me. I pick him up because he likes it not because he needs training.
He has a pullet and 2 cockerels and by gum if they ALL didn't get his personality!

I love my roosters and would show this article to anyone that crowed at that!

Thank you for sharing your memories and educating us all on the Pitt Bull of the Chicken Species.

i love my roosters they usually tend to be braver with humans than the hens do I think it may be genetic so the ladies can get to safety the boys face perceived danger. Once they realize no danger from you they tend to come alive personality wise.

Dogs and cats offer love and loyalty in return for food water and love, a rooster will too.

Thanks for letting us know it is possible to keep more than one without having a hen quotas
