For the last two weeks, I've noticed that our most submissive hen, Clementine, was starting to look fluffy like she was losing her feathers on the end of her back, just in front of her tail. We got a chance to look underneath the fluff, and discovered some sore spots (see pics) and definitely a...
Aw, hello, Brownie! That's interesting about the pecking order. Cricket is so clearly the dominant one over here. I'll let you know when Cricket lays her first egg and maybe Brownie will be a week later, based on their ages! Who really knows, though.
I can't remember how old my last generation...
Thanks!! Can you reply with a photo of yours? I'd love to see her! What other breeds do you have? Mine are mostly orpingtons, and one Australorp. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.
Hello, chicken people!! Is our little Cricket a cockeral or a pullet?? He/she is exactly 4 months old (hatched from Meyer on 5/10/17), has always been chatty since she was two days old, and is the leader of the pack. She also is very vocal but doesn't do the traditional cock-a-doodle-do crow...
Hi there! Our sweetheart, Mabel, is 15.5 weeks and I'm starting to worry that she's a he, because of her tail feathers and the way she struts around. What do you all think? If anyone has jubilees, please share pics! Photos of young ones are hard to find! Thanks.
Hi there! Judging by your cockerel's age, does everyone think mine is a hen? Mine is the same age (15.5 weeks old) but has more prominent wattles than our other lavender orp who hatched on the same day (we got day-olds from Meyer), so it's making me worry!
It's been several years since we owned chickens, and now we're back at it!! We're just putting the finishing touches on our coop and 20' run. We have 6 girls... if we're lucky. We ordered day-old pullets from Meyer Hatchery and had 100% success last time around, but we're wondering if we have...
What did he/she end up being?? I have a 15.5 week Australorp and am wondering if mine is a cockerel or pullet. I'd love everybody's input!! I can try to take a solo pic of (I think) her one day soon.
Hi there! We live in Denver and are looking to purchase 3-4 female chicks in the next week or so, and are unable to attend the swap in August. We're looking for Orpingtons and/or Rhode Island Reds (if you all think they will get along well!). I read that Orps seem to do best with their own...
