    Roosters touching each other's beaks

They are around 2.5 years old. We actually don't have any hens. I rescued the roosters and didn't want them to fight by bringing in girls. Earl who is on top of the pecking order had one eyed closed at one point during this time.

    Roosters touching each other's beaks

I have caught my roosters doing this a few times. They put their beaks together and stand there for over 5 minutes. They don't make noise or show any aggression. It is winter in Michigan so I'm not sure if they are cold? Bonding? Sleeping? Has anyone seen this?

    Rooster walking sideways/close to me

Update: for anyone experiencing this, he eventually stopped doing this after a few weeks. I would just remain calm when he came at me. When walking towards him, I would make him move out the way to establish my dominance. He must have caught on because he's back to being a sweet ol dude.

    Rooster walking sideways/close to me

Ugh! I was hoping he wasn't thinking this way. Besides walking straight towards him and making him move, anything else I can do to make him remember I'm on top of the pecking order? Lol I have never picked him up and don't feel comfortable at this point...

    Rooster walking sideways/close to me

I have 3 roosters and no hens. They are approximately 2 years old. They have all been very friendly towards me and follow me everywhere. I noticed a few days ago that the Buff Orpington will walk right up to me and then move his body sideways. He does NOT drop his wing or put his head to the...

    How to catch "wild" roosters

Finally got them all in!!! Thank you all for the suggestions. I got the first two in last week by putting down a trail of food and mealworms in a straight line leading to the run. The last rooster took another week as he was much smarter but with patience and treats, it eventually just clicked...

    How to catch "wild" roosters

We have 3 adult roosters that we took in. They were never handled much by humans and are skittish. We built a coop for them and they will NOT go in. We have tried everything (used treats, food, pool skimmer, made a run outside of the coop to trap them, etc). They run away before we can catch...

    Outdoor uncovered duck run material

Love the photo! That is a great idea. I wonder if artificial grass would work too.

    Outdoor uncovered duck run material

I live in Michigan with rain/snow in the winter. Our uncovered duck run is a muddy mess. We have clay soil and can't seem to grow grass in their area. I have seen posts recommending sand, pea gravel or wood chips. Which method works best? I have seen pros/cons for both.

Grey stain/spot on Pekin duck eggs

No, this just started happening the last week. Only change is the weather. We have had the first bit of snow but no changes in food.

Grey stain/spot on Pekin duck eggs

I've noticed a few of my Pekin eggs have a grey stain. Are these edible? Any idea what is causing this?

Use for eggs from duck treated with antibiotics

Thanks. So far she is walking with a little limp but the swelling has gone down. I am not sure how she injured herself (probably a drake) but she could barely put weight on it before. Our vet basically told us not to get our hopes up as duck feet and infections are hard to treat but she...

Use for eggs from duck treated with antibiotics

It was Carprofen (25mg) and SMZ TMP (480 mg). The carprofen says 90 days on the bottle.

Use for eggs from duck treated with antibiotics

I took my duck Midge to the vet and x-rays showed she had a broken foot and infection. We just finished 2 weeks of antibiotics and pain meds. The bottle for the antibiotics say to not eat eggs for 90 days. I do not plan on eating these eggs. I do feel horrible "wasting" them. I was thinking of...
