A friend gave me this hen. She is 18 months old, and I have been told she lays brown eggs. She has some feathering on her legs. Any ideas?

I picked up my last batch of hatching eggs on Friday during my lunch break, ran them home, and noticed that one of my Silkie eggs was starting to hatch! So I put the new eggs in, went back to work, and when I returned home I had 2 new baby Silkie chicks! Then I wake up this morning to 4 more...

I woke up this morning to 4 Silkie chicks this morning! I do a staggered hatch, and seem to get either chicks or bloodrings - nothing else! I have one more egg from 2/20 that could hatch, then the next set was laid on 2/28. I also have a final batch of shipped eggs in - this is my final attempt...

Woke up this morning to a cute noisy partridge Silkie chick in my incubator, and one more egg has pipped - one of mine, not a shipped egg. Cracked open 6 of the Marans eggs - 4 scrambled, 2 had dead chicks. Not sure what happened. Will leave the last 3 in until Monday. Very disappointing.

25 days for marans is good to hear.... I have a batch of silkies due to hatch on Saturday, and still nothing from my marans eggs..... so I will wait until Monday before I toss them..... nothing stinks yet

Tomorrow is day 21 for my Marans..... the last time I candled I saw shadows in 14 of 15 eggs..... so hopefully in the next few days I will have new babies!

For me, this is a dangerous time of the year..... chick season!!!!! My daughter and I went by Snohomish Co-op after her GS meeting, and walked out with chicks.... duh.... 4 Buff Polish, 4 Red Polish, 2 Mottled Houdan, and 2 Crevecoeur..... they are all in the horse trough now, with 2 heat...
