So I went into Tractor Supply today...

Thanks. Our other bantam roo that died was feisty too. You can already tell that this one will be that way. The funny thing is that he is the most calm of the bunch when being held.

Almost 6 weeks in and I'm pretty sure one of the bantams is a roo. But that's ok as we lost our rosecomb bantam roo a few months ago. Here is a current picture of the chicks: These are the 2 bantams w/ one of the Javas. I' ppretty sure the one on the right is a roo. Here is another shot of...

So I went into Tractor Supply today...

That's some amazing willpower. I haven't even ever thought about getting ducks until my wife mentioned that she wanted some. I think we will wait a while until these chicks are out of the house and I get a duck house built before we get any. BTW, is duck math like chicken math?

Both chicks have yellow/orange legs. I'll be happy with whatever they turn out to be - I just don't like the waiting game to find out...

That's definitely a possibility too. They don't have the fluffy cheeks or "beard" of an EE (at least not yet), so I hadn't cconsidered it. I'd be happy with some little Easter Eggers running around the place, we'd hopefully get some cute, colorful eggs.

Ok. Well, in that case it would appear that I have one of each as the one chick has a very defined mark while the other one is there but rather subdued.

Can you explain the eye mark further? Is it different than the wider, dark line that runs 'across' the eye?

"just to look" Sounds familiar. Actually sounds like something that ends up with adding on to the run and building another coop. Or at least that's what I've heard...

Yes, laced. Thank you, autocorrect.... Although a gold plated one would be cool too...

So I went into Tractor Supply today...

I assume that ours uses a hatchery from here in Texas, but I don't know which one. Every now and then there's something cool there. Last year I went into one store nearby and they had gold-plated wyandottes. I was bummed that I was at max chicken capacity at the time...

So I went into Tractor Supply today...

They are marked as assorted bantams and had a few chipmunk colored ones and ones that were pale yellow/whitish. Not sure what breed or if they had feathered legs/feet. In years past they have had all different kinds and colors of chicks. The only one we ever got before was a blue Rosecomb bantam...

I've heard of them, but never ordered any chicks from them. We have a small flock and I like that I can get 4 chicks from Tractor Supply. In the future, we may start going in w/ friends and family on larger chick orders from Ideal or one of the other hatcheries.

So I went into Tractor Supply today...

Thanks. I'm not sure where they get their chicks. I'll try to remember to ask the next time I'm in there. Yes the bins were marked with both little sticky tags and they had larger, 8.5x11 signs with breed descriptions in front of each bin. I'll be back in there in a week or two as my wife...

So I went into Tractor Supply today...

Thanks for the help. I knew the Bantams were straight run, as that's how they've always been at TSC. I'm glad those are mottled Javas as they are quite handsome when they're grown. I'm not sure what was going on with those chicks. This was the first batch of chicks this year at our store, and...
