    Crop on Left Side?

OK I'll swab her for the gape worms. If I don't see anything I guess I'll figure its an impacted crop that switch sides.

    Crop on Left Side?

she does have some missing feathers on her neck but can't remember which side. Not near the "crop" on the left side though

    Crop on Left Side?

I guess but none of the other birds are having any problems. If it was a parasite I would think some of the others would be suffering too.

    Crop on Left Side?

Hi all, I've had a Welsummer hen that's been having issues for a week or so now. I came back from vacation and she was stretching her neck out and gasping when she breaths in kind of like a wheezing sound. I looked for her crop and didn't feel anything on the right side of her breastbone but on...

    Breathing issues

I'm having a similar problem with one of my hens. She will also shake her whole body so hard that she almost falls over occasionally. But she's eating and drinking really well. Not sure what to do. Watching this thread.

    2 Welsummers not laying

Welsummers do not typically lay through the winter, even if its their first year. I got my first last year in May and they never started laying until the next February. After that, I reliably got an egg a day from each one though.

Ok alabamians. Anyone else having problems with mites on their chickens? I've tried all the organic methods. They seem to work for a week and then the mites come back even worse.

    Limping Chick

I have a 5 week old Olive Egger chick that has started limping and laying down a lot. My 3 year old son says he stepped on it but I'm not sure if that's really what happened. He tends to say "Yes" to any question you ask him. I moved the limb and nothing appears to be broken, although I'm not a...

Feeling overwhelmed and having second thoughts!

If you do it right from the beginning its not difficult at all to raise chicks. I keep mine in a big rubbermaid container with about 3-4 inches of pine shavings. They get chick starter and water and I put in a hollowed out pot for them to get away from the heat from the lamp if they need to. All...

Feeling overwhelmed and having second thoughts!

Hi! Congrats on making the plunge. I wouldn't feel overwhelmed. If you're worried, you might think about starting with young pullets instead of chicks. Chicks do require more work than adults. I have two young children and it typically only takes me about 5 min a day to take care of my adult...
