We were given a rooster about a year ago - my son wanted him for protection when the flock is out free ranging. He is an excellent protector and provider. If he finds a delicacy he will call the girls over and give it to them. Very cute.
He is an excellent baby-maker! When we have a broody...
I know...the young roosters are pitiful when they start out...funny little guys.
Well, your wearing ear-buds is none of her business...I certainly would want to drown out the language...problem is some people can't see past the nose on their faces - other people's feelings matter very little...
The vulgarity spewing makes me think there is definitely some mental issues going on there...that's quite anti-social.
I know that fact has been established but it unnerves me and makes me wonder what she might do if provoked.
I would so ignore her and go on with my daily life [pray for her] -...
My son has been raising meal-worms for years ever since he once owned a bearded dragon (who has since passed on).
Now he raises them for the chickens.
He started with a container of regular-sized worms from PetSmart (not the Super Worms).
You need a 10 gallon terrarium (or something...
I was never a fight fire with fire person - mostly because I could never understand why imitating another's bad behavior is a righteous thing - it's not.
You are doing the right thing by ignoring her - she wants to get a rise, she wants to hurt you - the fence is a great way to isolate the...
During the day, no body left --> fox or coyote.
Are these animals native to your area?
I am sorry this happened...don't fret...when you're ready get another bird or two and keep them housed in something more varmint-proof...is that possible?
Hugs...and don't fret.
eckowes - ours aren't yet 4 weeks old and they are eating food scraps. They figured out how to get into the big run with the full grown chickens and help themselves. They are definitely chips off the old blocks.
They are still getting their daily chick feed of course.
The chicks are -- OK, ready for this -- hens eggs were 2 brown Buff Orpington, 2 green Americauna -- rooster is Barred Rock and Cornish (given to us by our neighbor who had a hatch about 6 months ago and several roosters were born).
So 2 of the chicks are Buff Orpington-Barred-Rock-Cornish...
Yes...a Buff Orpington...she is such a good mama.
First time raising hatch-lings...what a wonderful experience.
Can you see the four little heads just sticking out? It rained (tons) and they are needing some warmth.
Here's some of our girls and guy yesterday, eating the black fly larvae...the coop/run is shown right behind the compost bins...easy to dump the chicken waste into the bins.
