We got our first egg!!! Now what?

Buy an all flock or flockraiser feed and supply oyster shell or crushed egg shells on the side for the layers. They will eat what they need. Congrats on the egg!

Help me...why are they not pipping? (Eggtopsy pics)

Thanks...that's what I was thinking was the problem. The new incubator has huge wells so it is hard to keep it low enough. I've never seen this happen in previous hatches. I'm gonna try placing a cup of water in the corner instead of the wells and see if that helps.

Help me...why are they not pipping? (Eggtopsy pics)

My experience is the shipped eggs you usually will have fewer develop but there has to be a reason these babies aren't hatching...they look perfect...I cant tell if this is "shrinkwrapping"? The membrane doesnt seem tough on most of them except the one pic I posted where its dry. Sigh. Hope...

    Polish chick?

Help me...why are they not pipping? (Eggtopsy pics)

Please help...I'm having some horrible hatching luck. And the worst part is that my fully formed chicks are dying in lockdown which to me is so much more disappointing than early quitters! I'm using both a Brinsea Octagon and a cheap 56 egg bator from amazon. I noticed more early deaths in...

    Silver laced polish...accidental pullet?

Its interesting...this bird is now 13 weeks old and I still have no idea! I'll post more pics tomorrow. My other cockerels are growing their saddles already but this one is still stumping me.

I need options; roosters to hen ratio.

Very true...they were free ranged all day!

I need options; roosters to hen ratio.

Before I moved I had a flock of about 40 mixed breed birds and at least 10 of them male because I hatched them myself. They all got along peacefully. My older welsummer Roo was the lead male of the group and the rest all just got along. There were one or two hens with feather damage and I got...

    June to July hatch-a-long!!!

It's hatch day! 2 beautiful Polish babies out (Gold laced and Buff laced) 3 more pips. 11 eggs made it to lockdown so hoping for more pips soon...I hear chirping from internal pips! I am using a cheap Bator I bought off Amazon for a hatcher....I feel it is responsible for some poor hatches of...

    Advice on chick breed?

Hmmm...it looks like a light brahma but it should have feathered legs. Where did you get her? Sorry to ask but can you grab her and take a straight on pic of her face so we can see what kind of comb she has?

    Low hatch rate?

On my hatch where they all made it to lockdown but didn't pip internally, I opened the top of the shell and the membrane seemed to have shriveled up and I think shrink wrapped but I'm not sure if that's because they had been dead for a day or two. Have you opened yours up? I didnt open the...
