I just love that- What the Hell does an ecstatic chicken actually look like, really?? hahaha!!!
Anyway, Ive enjoyed following this thread. I love the debate/discussion...
Teamchaos,
I did want to reply to you particularly and just say that YES- she had a messy butt previously and now the bald butt... hmmmmm. there may be a connection there and it may have nothing to do with roostering.
Mary
thanks for all the replies!!!
I must confess I was hoping for a response that would say, "Soak her butt in lemon juice and she'll be fully feather in one week" or something like that- hahaha!!
I am just tired of looking at her sorry bottom and even though I proudly eat her eggs I feel a bit...
Also, Daisy has been laying great- an egg a day, so that is not an issue, and she is eating/drinking otherwise fine-- I am just tired of looking at her awful ugly butt!!!!!!!
Mary
Daisy is the BA hen(on the right) that has an ugly butt:
Clementine is our other BA hen that has a lovey butt:
WHY does Daisy have such an ugly butt and is there any remedy?
And yes, Daisy is our rooster's favorite, however he actually really loves Clementine as well, so I do not see this...
I have to say that i LOVE this thread!!!
We are "newbies" to chickens, only 2 years, but we have had a broody hen hatching experience for the last 2 springs. It is wonderful!!! I just never imagined that it would be such an interesting thing to watch and be a part of- to see the momma hen be...
funny- the holes were bugging me too and I just covered them with hardware cloth- I will post another poc tomorrow- i cannot stand to think of anything(raccoon) reaching thru and pestering her!!!!
thanks!!
Mary
thanks for your interested from afar- just aint up to shipping chicks at this time!!!
OK... putting a sign out by the road, "FREE Baby Chicks"........
NOT going to hold my breath!!
thanks for reminding me about putting down litter!!! I was just so excited to find that she was still sitting tight after we'd moved her during the night. heh, heh, my dad just laughs at me whenever I am AMAZED that my hen is sitting on her eggs....I guess he saw it all the time growing up in...
Has anybody ever used an old large dog kennel, 3 ft by 2ft. for this?
My dear Clementine is broody for the second time ever in her life!!! She was such a wonderful, dedicated momma last year that even though I JUST had 20 chicks just arrive in the mail I am letting her sit on her little...
I can't wait to tell my daughter about the Zoomies!!
Glad I am not the only one that sits and stares at them (too much) to notice all the silly, funny, interesting, fascinating things they do!!!!!!
