First Time Chick Parents, Spring 2016

So our chicks had a big day on Sunday. We let them out of the mini run and coop to come play in the yard. Weather was great, they followed my wife @Serenashome out of the coop and stayed right with us. And this: Enjoy, they are five weeks old now and getting bigger every day. They...

A BEE thread....for those interested in beekeeping.

So we had a very busy day Saturday in the garden. The wife and I were working along, clearing and tilling beds, take a break around 4pm and the wife asks "what's in the top of the mulberry tree?" I couldn't see anything, so she gets up, walks over, stops and says "hey, are those bees?" I get...

They LOVE meal worms, I mean they go NUTS over them! They are not roosting on that roost, they are using it as a limbo bar, or a high bar, jumping over it or running under it. Crazy chickens!

Ideas needed to figure out how to cover top of run

@lynnehd is doing exactly what I thought the OP could do with the apple tree. Except her run seems long and narrow, which is why I said run welded wire on top of the run until you get to the limbs of the apple tree, then net around the tree tying it to the tree and welded wire.

A BEE thread....for those interested in beekeeping.

Not for just a top bar, but in the spring for a new package, feed them until they are not taking it anymore as quickly. If the nectar flow in your area is really going you and give a little less sugar water so they bring in more, in the dead of summer if they are still growing keep feeding...

First Time Chick Parents, Spring 2016

Oh the chicks are hardly any work, but lest we forget some of us are building chicken moats! The wife and I and our youngest daughters boyfriend spent two days digging 7 holes for 4x4's, placing 5' panels, filling with quickcrete, bracing....THAT IS HARD WORK for an old broken veteran But, that...

Building a chicken moat/run around the garden in stages.

So this isn't really a part of the moat, but, this thread is also our journey on chicken keeping. I've had comments that the picks of our chicks are really good and I'm saying that I am NOT a professional photographer, carpenter, handyman, or anything like that. I spent 17 years in the Army...
