Here in my neck of the woods, the state in its infinite wisdom has re-introduced diamond back rattlesnakes O boy!!! All I have to say is I hope genetic cloning never reaches the point that we re-introduce teradactyls and T-rex's
We like to let our chickens out to free range but our little Red Healer likes to play them to death. She is a smart dog and doesn't just outright attack them. She just likes to slowly heard them up and basically bust the covey and chase the flying ones then eventually she will grab one and it...
We have a raised floor coop. ( nearly 30 inches off the ground in some places) we put DE under the coop because thats were they seem to like to do the dust bath thing and lay around in the heat of the day. I haven't put it in the food yet I'm guessing that we will start that too.
Check at a nursery supply or landscaping place. We had mites so bad we built a new coop and burned the old one down. I got 25lbs of DE for 35$ at a nursery supply house. It is WONDERFUL!!!!! less smell, less flies (must stress less, not eliminated) and the litter is very dry. We love the...
We had to run the weed eater for nearly two hours. Cant mow it, too many rocks. then there is the trees and honeysuckle forest. The area around the coop gets pretty trampled and nothing grows underneath the coop but that has become the dust bath area
We have a large coop, then a 6' fenced run with wire roof that is left open most of the time so they can free range. Its funny sometimes if a hawk is about they all run into the fenced in part (or into the woods) It's like they know they have a wire mesh roof.
Wait till right at dusk and pick them up. They wont run in the fading light. Just grab them quickly and pin the shoulders to avoid flapping. I know some dont like it but grabbing a leg and sweeping quickly of the ground works till you can get them upright and restrained may help. Just don't...
We try the "divided by a fence" method then intro at night. We also overwhelm them with numbers. 8 one year olds about to meet 75 4 month olds. I'll let ya know how that goes
Heck we moved 75 six week olds into the coop before it was finished. We had a generator running outside an air compressor, framing nailer and a finish nailer and 3 adults working inside a 12x16 coop. My chickens are so tame because of it. They jump right up in your lap if you squat down with...
In my humble opinion....
Paint away!!!!I spent all weekend tearing down the old coop and burning it. We didn't paint it and it became infested with mites. The new coop is insulated and painted inside and out, in fact we have painted every surface including the floor that is covered with vinyl...
Every now and then for some unknown reason a few of my RIR's decide they want to sleep in the pine trees. mostly when it's really hot. We just built a new coop and the girls seem to want to bunch up all at one end of the nest boxes. It's gotta to be getting hot!!!! They really do have tiny tiny...

All it will do is make it amusing to watch their acrobatics. I don't think it will even slow them down. You should watch some of the squirrel maze videos on U-tube. I've seen them fall 30+ feet from tree tops and hit the ground running. For fuzzy tailed rats they are amusing. We shoot...
