    Limping young rooster

I have a young rooster (black diamond pictured left) who is limping. He just started crowing and has a great personality and we intend to keep him. He started limping about or over a week ago. No signs of bumble foot. They are being treated for a very mild case of mites and lice that we caught...

    Mites and lice

I’ve never had anything like this in 3 years or having chickens but my coop is infested with mites and I also discovered when washing every one of my 23 chickens today that they have lice. One in particular has a lice infestation the others not so bad. The mites aren’t bad on them either but...

    Nurture Right 360 is trash

Well maybe I got a defective one then, or you’ve figured out a way to hack the system. But I’ve seen a lot of very similar reviews that mirror my experience with it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    Nurture Right 360 is trash

Nope. You can’t tell if an egg was fertilized after it started being incubated. If it didn’t develop in that machine it was likely because it wasn’t holding appropriate temp and it killed the embryos. I’m telling you guys. This is not how hatches are supposed to go.

    Nurture Right 360 is trash

I lost a ton of eggs before ordering a third unit like the two others I have and I took them all out. It was atrociously bad. Once I took them out and put them into my other machines I had a 91% hatch rate from about 14 days on. Before that I lost more than 2 DOZEN eggs. The fluctuations from...

Relocate eggs the day before hatch?

She just sent me a photo update… First pip just happened. Fingers crossed. 🤞

Relocate eggs the day before hatch?

They did not. They were still warm, wrapped in foam and insulated packing in a box and the trip was quick. I am guessing it was about 10 minutes total. And the units were still at 90+ degrees when they went back in because I closed them back up during transport. It was as quick and careful as it...

Relocate eggs the day before hatch?

My father’s health is rapidly declining and I have to leave for my home state immediately. I had eggs in lockdown the day before hatch day and we decided the best option was to relocate them to my friend’s home down the road about 3 minutes. I took out the eggs, packed them as quickly and safely...

    Ayam Cemani cross breeding

I love this thread. I have a pair of black diamond’s (silkie/AC) and one looks to be a cockerel. Still too early to know for sure. But I definitely want to keep him if temperament allows to breed with our mixed flock for the chance at fun fibro babies. I wonder how the genetics will differ with...

Which breed to try for new rooster?

Yes I was reading through some very long older posts yesterday about raising roosters and the info on “how” to end up with a good one seems totally conflicting.

Which breed to try for new rooster?

I should say that we are well aware that no rooster should ever be left unattended around small children!

Which breed to try for new rooster?

I have 3 children, the youngest is 4. This photo is about 2 years old. I’m almost 40. 😉 We brought in the rooster after losing most of our flock to predators, and he has done the job of keeping these last 2 safe. They free range in a large fenced in area during the day that used to be a dog...

Which breed to try for new rooster?

We have not had good luck with roosters. We are trying to raise a replacement for our current rooster from one of the breeds of chicks we have now. Of the following, which do you think has the best chance of being a kid-safe, well tempered rooster? Black Diamond Lavender Orpington Lavender...

    Sick 3 Day Old Chick

Is it too hot? Are you using an heat lamp or a brooder plate? Are you giving them too much electrolytes? Is their food medicated? Are they too cold? Are you allowing them to be exposed to any aerosales or strong chemicals including Teflon pans?

    Sick 3 Day Old Chick

What kind of set up do you have what are you feeding them and giving them to drink? If multiple birds are dying something is wrong.
